Scene, Sports and Games: Chess -- Within gold frame, chessboard with thirteen red and gold pieces on squares lettered A-F for two moves; diagram numbered 1. To right of board, initial C decorated with scrolling foliate infilling and with foliate ascender on which are perching two magpies and bird, possibly goldfinch, above nude man holding spear with left hand. The initial also with foliate descender in right margin, on which is perching ape, above climbing squirrel chased below by dog, and leaping stag to far right. Foliate extension in lower margin, on which are dancing nude female, with left arm raised and with left leg crossing right leg; bat with outstretched wings, and hybrid man, with body of two-legged beast, wearing hat with bell.
