Evangelist John, holding scroll in his lap inscribed IN PRINC[IPIO], sits on shore beside eagle (Evangelist Symbol). In background are castles on hills with winding roads. Miniature enclosed in architectural frame, with two standing figures of prophets (?). Bottom of frame is inscribed IN PRINCIPIO ERAT.
