Christ: Crucifixion -- Christ, nimbed, and wearing short loincloth, bleeding from wounds, is affixed with three nail to cross with titulus INRI. At left are Holy Woman, nimbed and veiled with wimple, kneeling with joined hands, and Virgin Mary, nimbed and veiled with wimple, seated with hands in lap. Evangelist John, nimbed, bends over her, his left hand on her left arm. At right are soldiers, some holding spears, one holding bannered spear, and another man, possibly Longinus of Jerusalem, wearing hat, his right hand on his breast, looking up toward Christ.
Scene in landscape with trees, rocky outcrop and with city in background.
Margins decorated with border of floreate ornament including rose, dianthus, sweetpea and strawberry, and inhabited by monkey holding distaff and spindle (Scene, Burlesque: Spinning).
