Virgin Mary and Christ Child: Type, Suckling -- Below tripartite arch, Virgin Mary, nimbed and crowned, is seated on bench. With right hand, she holds left breast to mouth of Christ Child, crossed nimbus, seated on her lap, grasping her right arm with His right hand, holding object with left hand.
At left are symbols for evangelists John (eagle), nimbed, holding blank scroll in beak, and Mark (lion), nimbed, upright on hindquarters, holding blank scroll with front paws. To their right is kneeling monk, holding blank scroll with raised right hand.
At right, is bishop, probably Vincent of Bevagna, nimbed, wearing miter, holding crozier with right hand and book or letter with left hand. To right of Vincent are symbols for evangelists Matthew (angel), nimbed, seated on bench, holding blank scroll with both hands, and Luke (ox), nimbed and winged, upright on hindquarters, holding blank scroll with front hooves.
Upper margin:
Bust of Peter, nimbed and tonsured, holding keys with right hand and raising left hand; bust of Christ, crossed nimbus, raising both hands, the right hand in gesture of blessing; bust of Paul, nimbed, holding upturned sword with right hand and raising left hand.
