Jean Froissart: Chroniques, Book I, Prologue -- Two scenes within miniature.
1) Jean Froissart: Chroniques, Book I, Prologue -- Standing in front of four male attendants, Richard II of England, crowned, wearing mantle decorated with arms of England, grasps with both hands book held by Jean Froissart, kneeling on one knee.
2) Isabella of England: received by Charles the Fair -- Standing in front of two female attendants, Isabella of England, crowned, garment decorated with three lions passant and fleur-de-lis, holds left hand of young Edward III, garment decorated with three lions passant. She extends left arm toward Charles the Fair, crowned, wearing mantle decorated with fleur-de-lis, grasping her hand with both hands. Behind him stand three male attendants.
Initial A:
Initial, decorated with geometric ornament, contains arms of Pierre de Fontenay (de sable semé de trèfles d'argent au léopard lionné du même), surmounted by helmet with crest of female head, wearing fillet, and decorated with plummage.
Margins:
Foliate border inhabited by angel in upper right corner and two figures, each grasping tendril of foliate ornament in each hand.
In upper border, shield decorated with arms of Pierre de Fontenay.
In right border, shield decorated with arms of Pierre de Fontenay impaled with arms of Marie Broyes (d'azur à trois broies d'or), surmounted by helmet with crest of female head, wearing fillet, and decorated with plummage.
In lower border, angel supports arms of Pierre de Fontenay impaled with arms of Marie Broyes.
Motto NULLE AULTRE inscribed ten times within intertwining branches of foliate ornament.
