The "E" commences the text of the first Matins response for the Feast of the First Sunday of Lent: "E[cce nunc tempus acceptabile...]"; the versicle that follows this response continues on the back of the cutting: "[In om]nibus ex[hibeamus nosmetips]os sicut Dei [ministros...]." The text fragment on the back was made visible when the paper backing was removed when the item entered the Morgan.
