Innocents: Massacre -- In foreground nude infant, bleeding from wound, reclines on cloth on ground; mother, wearing hat, clasped hands raised to face kneels beside the infant. Before her soldier pierces with knife abdomen of another infant. Second woman, veiled, with clasped hands at breast is partially visible behind hill. Army approaches on horseback, some soldiers carrying lances, one carrying bannered lance.

Margins decorated with border of floreate ornament including grapes and strawberries.
