Divina Commedia, Purgatorio: Scene, Pageant transformed -- Statius of Naples stands behind Dante, wearing hat, gesturing to Matilda, standing with right hand raised before barren tree of knowledge. To right, eagle swoops down onto chariot, before which is fox., driven away by rod held by Beatrice, seated on ground amid personifications of virtues. Beasts of the apocalypse, elders, tonsured, eagle, and griffin at far right.
