Two scenes within miniature:
1) Stephen I, Pope: destroying Temple -- Within crumbling temple, Stephen I, nimbed, wearing triple-crowned tiara and vestments, holding papal cross in left hand, prays in temple for its destruction. He stands before two columns surmounted by idols.
2) Stephen I, Pope: Martyrdom -- To right, within architectural setting, Stephen (represented twice), nimbed, wearing triple-crowned tiara and vestments, is seated in chair, head inclined, joined hands raised. Three executioners, as soldiers wearing armor, strike him with swords. Behind them is draped altar surmounted by chalice, book, and retable depicting Crucifixion.
In background is landscape.
