Scene, Sports and Games: Jousting -- John Astley and Pierre de Masse, both wearing armor, mounted on caparisoned horses, joust in street surrounded by buildings on which figures perch to witness joust. Squire of John Astley looks on.
In background, Charles VII of France, with attendant, and members of court are seated within windows of Bastille. Above, perched on embattlements, two figures play bannered trumpets decorated with fleur-de-lis. Below, two heralds stand beside five soldiers wearing arms of John Astley. One herald wears tunic decorated with French arms, the other wears arms of John Astley.
