Benedict of Montecassino: Scene, receiving Habit -- Romanus of Subiaco, wearing hooded monk’s habit, extends monk’s habit toward youthful Benedict of Montecassino, nimbed, nude to waist, kneeling with joined hands raised, beside his garments on ground. Scene on hilly shore of stream, near mouth of cave at right and before church with cross-surmounted towers and crenellated city walls. Miniature within frame for Chapter 1 of Book II of Dialogues; Benedict of Montecassino meets Romanus of Subiaco in the wilderness and receives his monk’s habit.
