1) Rufinus of Aquileia, De Vitis Patrum, Chapter 4: Illustration -- At left, within refectory, nimbed and tonsured monk, wearing monk’s habit, seated, with left hand raised and with right hand in dish on draped table also spread with cup and pitcher. Above at right, basket suspended by hook and out of arched window is smoke.
2) Rufinus of Aquileia, De Vitis Patrum, Chapter 5: Illustration -- At right, within cross-surmounted monastery, three tonsured monks, wearing monk’s habits, eyes closed, with hands raised to faces (sleeping). Outside the monastery, nimbed and tonsured monk, wearing monk’s habit, wearing sack slung over right shoulder and with right hand on tau-staff, departing in landscape with trees.
