Rufinus of Aquileia, De Vitis Patrum, Chapter 11: Illustration -- Monk, tonsured, eyes closed, wearing monk’s habit, with both hands on tau-staff, seated on ground before three winged and horned devils, with claw feet, issuing flames from mouths and hindquarters, all joining hands. At right, tonsured monk, wearing monk’s habit, raising right hand toward flying, nimbed angel in sky, with hands lowered toward scene.
At far right, nimbed and tonsured monk, wearing monk’s habit, seated on stool, with hands extended toward one of two figures (statues), one youth, and woman with right hand raised, atop table.
