Innocents: Massacre -- Soldier, holding sword with right hand, reaches with left hand to swaddled infant, nimbed, held by mother, kneeling before Herod the Great, crowned, wearing headgear, holding scepter with right hand and saber with left hand. Swaddled infant, nimbed, bleeding from wounds, lies on ground. In background, another soldier holds, on right shoulder, sword on which is impaled swaddled infant, nimbed. Scene outside of castle (?) in walled courtyard.
Margins decorated with border of floreate and foliate ornament including thistle, acanthus leaves, strawberry, rose, and viola.
