Two scenes within miniature:
1) Giles of Provence: shielding Doe -- Amid grove of trees, two hunters, one holding spear, the other holding bow in left hand, hat in right hand, with hunting horn at belt, stand before Giles of Provence, nimbed, tonsured, wearing habit, seated before hermitage with bell, wounded in arm by arrow. He places right hand on neck of doe, raised on hind legs, and grasps its left foreleg with his left hand.
2) Giles of Provence: celebrating Mass -- To right, within architectural setting, Charlemagne (King Charles) kneels, under canopy, at prie-dieu. Giles (represented twice), nimbed, tonsured, wearing priest's vestments, celebrates mass at altar surmounted by chalice and open, inscribed book. Acolyte kneels beside altar. Above, angel extends, with left arm, inscribed scroll.
