Christ, decorated crossed nimbus, as half figure, raises right hand blessing with two crossed fingers and holds book in left hand, within loop forming upper part of decorated initial A.
Below in the initial A, Gregory the Great, nimbed, wearing bishop's miter with infulae and vestments with cross-inscribed pallium, sits on chair, holding knife in left hand and with pen in right hand writing letters A[D] TE from Psalm 25:1 (Vulg., 24:1) on recto of open book on lectern entwined with fantastic animal, possibly serpent.
Flanking the initial A are half figures of two nimbed angels gesturing toward the Christ.
All within frame decorated with Kufic script.
Beginning of introit for First Sunday in Advent.
