Pilate: washing Hands -- Man, pouring water from pitcher held in right hand into basin held in left hand, stands beside Pilate, wearing ermine hat and collar, seated on throne. Before Pilate stands Christ, with crossed rayed nimbus, bleeding from crown of thorns, flanked by helmeted soldiers. Scene in initial H.
Margins with scattered flowers, including sweet pea, with peapod, inhabited by two birds and with flowers in vase. Vignette in lower margin:
Christ: bearing Cross -- Christ, with crossed rayed nimbus, bleeding from crown of thorns, carries tau cross on his left shoulder. Behind Christ are two helmeted soldiers, including one with raised goad (?), with his foot to hindquarters of Christ. Before Christ are four more soldiers, including two holding ends of rope tied around Christ's waist. City gate at left.
