Julius Caesar: Scene, Conquest of Gaul, Siege of Alesia -- Group of helmeted soldiers and men, some wearing brimmed hats (Romans), walk amid tents, one holds shield, some hold lances, and two hold heraldic bannered lances, one decorated with dragon. In foreground, one pulls wagon laden with objects, all in campsite outside city walls of Alesia, with crenellated towers and gate, surrounded by moat. Scene in grassy landscape with trees in background. Figures painted in grisaille. Decorated with ivy-rinceaux and floreate ornament in border above and below center margin, including daisies and strawberries, miniature within gold frame. Initial Q of Quant decorated with foliate and floreate ornament. Miniature for Chapter 941 of Faits des Romains.
