Evangelist Matthew, nimbed, seated on chair, with knife in left hand, writes with pen in his right hand inscription (L)IBER GENERATIONIS IHU XPI from Matthew 1:1 in open book on lectern.
He sits beside initial L decorated with ornament of foliage and fantastic animals, including two dragons attacking and devouring sheep.
