Christ: bearing Cross -- Christ, decorated nimbus, wearing crown of thorns, bears cross over right shoulder. Behind him, Virgin Mary, nimbed, veiled, holds lower arm of the cross to face, and Evangelist John, nimbed, turns toward her. At right, soldier, wearing mail, leads Him by rope, tied around His waist. Rays of light from sun, in arch of frame.
