Column, right: Christ: Flagellation -- Among three tormentors, two pull rope around feet of Christ, cross-nimbed, wearing crown of thorns and short loin cloth, covered with wounds, standing with hands bound behind Him to column of centrally-vaulted building; one tormentor, wearing sword in scabbard at waist, all raise whips or switches. In background, among three men, two wearing hats, look on. Illustration for Second Nocturn in Matins for Good Friday. Margins decorated on three sides with scrolling floreate and foliate decoration inhabited by half figures of two prophets, wearing hats, emerging from clouds, both holding scrolls inscribed FLAGELLATIO ... and VUE D(OMI)NE ... (largely illegible) (left).
