Column, right: Christ: Entombment -- Christ, cross-nimbed, eyes closed, head inclined, bleeding from wounds in hands, side, and feet, is lowered on shroud into sarcophagus, His shoulders and feet supported by possibly Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, one wearing hat. Virgin Mary, veiled, holding right hand to cheek and lowering left hand toward the Christ, she is behind the sarcophagus, accompanied by two Holy Women and Evangelist John, all nimbed. Scene in landscape. Illustration for First Nocturn in Matins for Holy Saturday. Margins decorated on three sides with scrolling floreate and foliate decoration inhabited by half figures of two prophets, wearing hats, emerging from clouds, both holding scrolls inscribed POSUERUNT FRATRES (?) and SEPULCRO DOMINO (left).
