Christ: on Road to Emmaus -- Christ, represented as pilgrim, cross-nimbed, wearing broad-rimmed hat and pilgrim’s scrip (purse), with right hand holding loop of beads, possibly rosary, and with left hand holding staff, talking to one of two apostles, nimbed, the foremost raising right hand and with left hand holding book, the other gathering garment in his hands. Scene in hilly landscape with windmill on summit, city of Emmaus in far right background. Illustration for First Nocturn in Matins on Monday of Easter Week. Margins decorated on three sides with scrolling floreate and foliate decoration, inhabited by half figures of two prophets, wearing hats, emerging from clouds, both holding scrolls inscribed NON(N)E COR N(OSTRUM) and MANE NOB(IS) C(UM) (left).
