Legend, Trojan War: Death of Achilles -- Achilles, bleeding from wound in neck and side, lies supine on floor beside two men, one possibly Antilochus (only legs or head visible), and before soldier, wearing helmet and full armor, raising weapon (sword?) in hands, all before altar on which are two idols, possibly one of Apollo. To right, among two helmeted soldiers, one leans on sword held in right hand and three men (?), possibly Paris, wearing hat, holds bow in right hand and draws arrow with left hand, aimed toward Achilles. Interior scene of temple, possibly Temple of Apollo, with brick walls and tiled floor. Figures painted in grisaille. Margins decorated with floreate and foliate border above and below left column, miniature within gold frame. Illustration of Book 5, History of Troy.
