Evangelist, John: Scene, on Patmos -- John, nimbed, writes with right hand in open book held by his left hand on his lap. Head of Evangelist symbol (eagle) is visible behind him. In background is water with ship, island (?) with buildings, and buildings on hill in distance.
Margins decorated with border of blocks of gold and white enclosing floreate ornament including viola, strawberry, and daisy and inhabited by satyr with animal torso (Animal, fantastic), holding sword with right hand and pointed shield with left hand, looking toward back-turned centaur with animal torso, holding round shield (buckler) with left hand and sword with right hand in opposite corner of lower margin.
