Initial D:
Virgin Mary: Death -- Evangelist John, nimbed, sits with hands clasped, at side of draped bed in which Virgin Mary, unnimbed, veiled, lies before Apostle Peter, nimbed, tonsured, in priest's vestments, holding aspergil and situla, flanked by six nimbed apostles, three with joined hands. Above amid cloudy arc of heaven, Christ, cross-nimbed, with His right hand raised in blessing, and nude Personification of Soul of Virgin Mary with joined hands raised in front, both as half figures.
Scene within initial D decorated with marginal foliate extensions, one partly formed by dragon. Beginning of Matins of Hours of the Virgin.
In lower margin, three scrolling tendrils enclose bas-de-page scene as follows:
Bestiary: Tiger and Image -- Man, holding cub in fold of garment, departs to left. Tiger (wolf) looks at image in mirror. Man holds cub in fold of garment and bends toward mouth of cave in which is tiger.
In right margin, archer on bottom stem shoots with crossbow at bird perching on top stem.
