Evangelist, John: boiled in Oil -- Evangelist John, nimbed, arms crossed on nude breast, stands in vat atop oven with fire stoked by pole held by torturer at left. Behind him, another man, wearing hat, leans over bundle of branches with pruning knife. At right stands man wearing hat, brocaded gown, knotted sash at waist, sword at right side, walking stick in right hand, probably Domitian; behind him is another man, wearing hat and fur-lined garment, his right hand on left arm of first man, holding sword between his legs with left hand.
