Miniature divided into four parts:
1) Evangelist, John: Scene, on Patmos -- John, nimbed, holding pen in raised right hand, is seated holding with left hand on his lap, scroll inscribed SANCTUS IOHANNES. Beginning of the scroll is held in beak of evangelist symbol (eagle) at right. Behind John, devil grasps cords attached to pen case and ink bottle.2) Evangelist symbol (angel) standing, grasps with right hand, corner of desk before Matthew, nimbed, seated at the desk on which is open book. He holds pen with right hand and knife with left hand.
