Francis I of France, wearing feathered hat, coat lined with fur and collar trimmed with cockleshells linked with double knots (from the Order of Saint Michael), extends hands to book extended in right hand of Girard Acarie, holding hat with left hand, partly kneeling; both before five courtiers, four wear feathered hats, one holds his gloves; at least four guards are in background left, threee hold halberds and one holds spear (only heads or weapons are visible).
