Evangelist, Luke: painting Virgin Mary -- Luke, nimbed, extends right hand to painting of Mary on easel or lectern. He is seated on bench at table with footrest. Virgin Mary, nimbed and veiled with wimple, with joined hands, stands opposite him. Scene in room with wooden window, wooden ceiling, part as barrel vault. On wall, grisaille painting or relief of Annunciation. Virgin Mary, with joined hands, kneeling at draped prie-dieu, on which is open book. Opposite the prie-dieu, Gabriel, raising right hand, kneeling (Virgin Mary: Annunciation). Text below miniature is beginning of Gospel Sequence of Luke (Luke 1:26, variant).
