Christ: Crucifixion -- Christ, with crossed nimbus, wearing short loin cloth, bleeding from wounds, is affixed with three nails to cross with titulus inscribed INRI. At base of cross is skull. Flanking the cross are Virgin Mary, nimbed, veiled, with joined hands, and Evangelist John, nimbed, gesturing. In background is landscape with trees, hills, and city of Jerusalem, with towers and domes.
Margins with foliate ornament, with four medallions enclosing symbols of the Evangelists:
1) Evangelist: Symbol, John -- Eagle, nimbed, holding book in its talons.
2) Evangelist: Symbol, Mark -- Winged lion, nimbed, holding book in its forepaws.
3) Evangelist: Symbol, Matthew -- Angel, nimbed, holding book in left arm.
4) Evangelist: Symbol, Luke -- Winged ox, nimbed, holding book in its forepaws.
