Miniature: Christ: Deposition -- Christ, rays as crossed nimbus, with crown of thorns, head inclined, eyes closed, wearing short loincloth, is supported by man wearing hat, on ladder behind the cross, grasping left arm of Christ. Another man, using pincers, removes nail from feet of Christ. At left, Evangelist John stands looking up at Christ; Holy Woman, veiled, grasps dangling right arm of Christ; Virgin Mary, veiled, with hands clasped, looks away from the cross, possibly swooning. At right, Joseph of Arimathea, wearing hat, with cloth draped on left shoulder, holding two nails with left hand, looks up toward Christ. Skull at base of cross. In background, two thieves hang from crosses, their arms up over the cross bar; Dysmas looking toward Christ; Gestas hanging head. Margins: 1) In right margin, one of two men carries ladder; the other holds hammer with right hand and pincers with left. Below, two Holy Women, veiled, carry jars. 2) Christ: Bewailing -- In lower margin, body of Christ, wearing short loincloth, wounds visible, reclines on lap of Virgin Mary, veiled, raising left hand. Evangelist John, kneeling, supports head of Christ with right hand, and holds book with left hand. One of two Holy Women raises left hand of Christ to her face; the other, veiled, raises left hand.
