Christ: Crucifixion -- Christ, nimbed, wearing crown of thorns, with head inclined, wearing short loin cloth, bleeding from wounds, is affixed with three nails to tau cross with titulus inscribed INRI. Mary Magdalen, nimbed, kneeling on ground, embraces the cross; beside her is small vessel. To left of the Christ are Virgin Mary, Evangelist John, and two holy women, all nimbed, and thief bound to cross; to right are Stephaton, wearing armor, holding reed (sponge not shown), Longinus of Jerusalem, wearing armor and turban, astride horse, pointing toward the Christ, two men wearing hats, and second thief bound to cross. In background is distant city of Jerusalem.
