Miniature, column: Judith: slaying Holofernes -- Within bedroom, beheaded Holofernes, bleeding from neck, reclines in bed of canopy type, headboard slung with scabbard, to left is chair with pillow. In foreground, Judith, with left hand holding scimitar and with right hand lowering head of the Holofernes into sack held by female attendant; all against filigree background. Beginning of First Lesson in First Nocturn in Matins on the Second Sunday in October. Margins decorated on three sides with scrolling floreate and foliate decoration inhabited by half figures of two prophets, wearing draped headgear, emerging from cloudy arcs, holding scrolls inscribed LAUDATE DOMINUM and INTERFECIT IN (right).
