La vérité à la place des ombres
France, Paris, 1679
MS M.21 fol. 42r
Painted as if a tapestry, the paschal lamb, followed by other sheep, is brought before Moses and Aaron by two shepherds, one holding a pedum and accompanied by his dog. A shepherd stands behind on the left; on the right there is a shed surrounded by a wattle fence. A large farmhouse appears in the middle distance with mountains beyond. A plaque at the top is inscribed, ERIT AUTEM AGRUS ABSQ.’ MACULA. There is a quatrain at the bottom. The frame consists of bands of burnished and dull gold.
