Christ: Crucifixion -- Christ, cross-nimbed with rays, wearing crown of thorns, eyes closed, head inclined, wearing loin cloth, bleeding from wounds in head, hands, side and feet, is affixed with three nails to cross with titulus inscribed INRI from John 19:19, flanked at foot of cross by Virgin Mary, veiled with wimple, and Evangelist John, both nimbed, with joined hands raised, all flanked by two tau-crosses bearing bound and bleeding bodies of Dysmas and Gestas. Margins decorated with scrolling border of acanthus inhabited by eleven birds. Miniature at beginning of None in Short Hours of the Cross.
