Evangelist, John: Scene,on Patmos -- Evangelist John, nimbed, writing with right hand in open book on his lap, is seated on rocks next to evangelist symbol (eagle) holding inkpot and pencase in beak. John looks up, over left shoulder, toward woman, nimbed and veiled, holding nude child, nimbed, in her arms and standing on seven headed dragon, all within opening of clouds (Apocalypse: Woman, Child caught up or Virgin and Child). Scene in landscape on rocky island with trees, stream and buildings in background.
Miniature of grisaille and gold with painted accents, within Italianate architectural frame with two plaques, one inscribed IHS and the other MARIA, and decorated with mask, foliate garlands, urns, foliate capitals, and horns.
