Evangelist John, nimbed, sits in chair at desk upon which is open book with pseudo-inscription and pen box. He holds pen in right hand and writes on sheet of parchment on his lap. At left is his symbol (eagle) nimbed, holding scroll with pseudo-inscription in beak. Scene in vaulted room with seven windows. In background is shelf with open book.
Margins are decorated with illusionistic border of trees and flowers, including strawberries. Border is inhabited by birds. In lower margin is escutcheon wuth heraldic decoration.
