Christ: Crucifixion -- Christ, crossed nimbus of rays, wearing crown of thorns and short loin cloth, bleeding from wounds, is affixed with three nails to cross with titulus inscribed INRI.
He is flanked by nimbed Evangelist John, nimbed, supporting swooning Virgin Mary, nimbed, veiled, beside nimbed holy woman with left hand raised to face, and by Mary Magdalen, nimbed, seated wtih hands on her lap in front of two men, one possibly the Centurion, raising right hand and looking up toward Him.
Buildings, including churches with spires, appear in hilly landscape, indicating city of Jerusalem.
Frame:
Miniature within elaborate architectural frame inhabited by putti. Two putti hold scroll inscribed with incipit of Matins of Short Hours of the Cross. Below, two putti hold wreath enclosing coat of arms.
