Miniature, column, right: 1) Barbara of Nicomedia: Scene, Martyrdom -- Barbara of Nicomedia, nimbed, with joined hands holding hair, kneels. Behind her, executioner, wearing hat, with right hand raises scimitar over her. They are flanked by one man, wearing headgear, gesturing, and group of three men, two wearing hats. In background left, accompanied by man and woman, Barbara of Nicomedia, extending hands toward mason, partly kneeling, all before tower with portal, on which are standing workers, at least one among three operating pulley (Scene, Occupational: Building). Miniature at beginning of Collect for Feast of Barbara of Nicomedia (12.04). Miniature, vignette, left: 2) Christ: calling James and John -- Christ, nimbed, with left hand holding globe, walking on shore, gestures toward James and John, both nimbed, standing in boat with sail and net slung over one side. Scene in hilly landscape with city buildings in background. Miniature for Twelfth Lesson in Matins according to Matthew for Feast of Apostle Andrew (11.30). Margins decorated on three sides with scrolling floreate and foliate decoration inhabited by monkey (upper); hybrid animal (left); and monkey holding mirror (lower).
