Miniature, column, left: Anthony Abbot the Great, nimbed, wearing cap and abbot’s habit, with left hand on tau-staff and with right hand holding book and bell, standing in flames. Behind him, at his feet, are emerging heads of dog and pig, wearing bells on collars. Scene in hilly landscape with trees in which roam animals, including bear, lion, and possibly dragon, with city buildings in distance. Miniature at beginning of First Lesson on the Feast of Anthony Abbot the Great (01.17). Initial O enclosing Anthony Abbot the Great, rays as nimbus, tonsured, wearing abbot’s habit, with right hand holding bell and with left hand holding crozier, standing in flames; against patterned background. Margins decorated on three sides with scrolling floreate and foliate decoration, including strawberry, inhabited by lion as bishop, wearing miter with infulae and collar, with tongue protruding (left).
