Evangelist, John: Scene, on Patmos -- Evangelist symbol (eagle) wings raised, stands before John, nimbed, seated writing with right hand in book on right knee, held by left hand.
Scene on island with rocky outcrop, ships and boats in background and mountains in distance.
Miniature enclosed by frame decorated with sculptural ornament including two nude male statues holding spears and shields and mask flanked by two wings. Inscription on frame IN PRINCIPIO ERAT VERBVM.
