Miniature at beginning of First Lesson in Matins for Feast of Benedict of Montecassino (03.21). Initial F enclosing Benedict of Montecassino, nimbed, tonsured, wearing abbot’s habit, seated on chair on which is mounted desk, with left hand holding knife and with right hand holding pen; in room with tiled floor and against gold background. Margins decorated on three sides with scrolling floreate and foliate decoration, including strawberry, inhabited by half figures of two prophets, wearing hats, emerging from clouds, holding scrolls inscribed EX UISIBILIBUS and EX UISIBILIA (left).
