Evangelist, Luke: painting Virgin Mary -- Beneath canopy, Evangelist Luke, nimbed, wearing soft cap, sits on folding stool, painting image of Virgin Mary, crowned, holding nude Christ Child, nimbed, on panel, on chair. At left, evangelist symbol (ox) sits next to table on which are containers. Scene in windowed room with barrel vaulted ceiling.
Margins, within circle of foliage (from top to bottom):
1) Evangelist Luke, rays as nimbus, both hands extended, stands opposite Apostle Paul, nimbed, holding sword in right hand.
2-3) Evangelist, Luke: preaching -- Evangelist Luke, nimbed, gestures with both hands toward group of four men, three wearing hats, seated on ground, one gesturing toward Luke.
Margins decorated with border of floreate and foliate ornament including rose, and inhabited by owl, hybrid angel with bird body playing harp, and bird.
