Christ: Ecce Homo-- Through central arch at summit of staircase, Christ, rays as nimbus, wearing crown of thorns and short loin cloth, bleeding from wounds in head and sores on body, wrists bound with rope, and holding palm in left hand, is flanked by bearded man and Pilate, wearing hat, raising left forefinger to indicate Him, both gather to open His mantle in their right hands, and stand before crowd of men and soldiers, some wearing hats or helmets, raising hands and forefingers, all flanking sides of the staircase. Scene before building façade with three arches and portico in background, city in distance. Framed text block of 15 lines is suspended from tree branch over path with arbor and foliage in foreground. Trees and foliage forming arch over scene; miniature within architectural frame.
