Christ: Crucifixion -- Christ, rays as crossed nimbus, eyes closed, head slightly inclined, wearing crown of thorns and short loin cloth, blood flowing from wounds in head, hands, and feet, is affixed by three nails to tau-cross with titulus inscribed INRI (from John 19:19).
He is flanked below, at left, by group of Virgin Mary, veiled with wimple, hands clasped, swooning, accompanied by Evangelist John, and Mary Magdalen, wearing turban-like headdress with wimple, embracing stem of the cross, the latter two both looking up, and two Holy Women, veiled or wearing headdress, in background;
and at right, group of Stephaton, wearing hat, beside Longinus the Soldier, helmeted and wearing armor, with left hand resting on sword, and two soldiers, one holding halberd, wearing turban-like headgear, and one holding spear, helmeted; skull amid rocks in foreground.
