Thomasin von Zerclaere: Text, Der Wälsche Gast, Book 03.10 -- Miniature in two registers:
1) Man, wearing cap, with scroll inscribed NU VART ANE SCHALLE ZIT DEME HEMEL ALLE, extends right hand to hand of man, wearing ragged clothes, beneath scrolls inscribed WIR SULLEN VAREN AN SCHAL and DAZ ARME VOLKE. Beside him stands hooded man, with his hand on shoulder of man, wearing drawers, turning to look at him and approaching man, wearing shirt, with scroll inscribed GET HER GODES KINT, entering building with two towers flanking arched doorway. 2) Devil, with second face on abdomen, with scroll inscribed IR HERREN ALLE KIMT HER ZU MIR MIT SCHALLE to left, holding hook and scroll inscribed EDEL UNDE HOCHGEMUT, stands in doorway of flaming building, labeled SYPLLUDE. Before him are three men, including one playing drum, one playing flue, and one with scroll inscribed WA SYT IR SO LANGE GEWESEN, holding tip of bannered staff held by one of three horsemen, approaching the musicians and devil. To right is man, wearing hood (?), holding lute, with scroll inscribed DER SPILMAN. He stands beside man, with left hand indicating garment held in right hand, and with scroll inscribed ICH GEBEN DIR NICHT. Beside him stands beggar, possibly with only one leg, wearing drawers, with crutch under left arm, and with scrolls inscribed DER ARME MAN and HERRE GIBT MIR EYNEN PENNING.
