Miniature, column, right: Beneath arch, Evangelist Matthew, nimbed, seated on chair decorated with relief of figure, with left hand holding knife and with right hand holding pen, before desk on which is open book with pseudo-inscriptions. The desk with shelf holding two books, also decorated with relief of figure, and on which is object, possibly clamp. In foreground right, Evangelist Symbol of Matthew (angel), nimbed, seated and with right hand holding blank scroll. Scene in room with three windows and tiled floor. Miniature and initial D enclosing head of man, wearing hat, at beginning of Collect and continuing to First Lesson for Feast of Evangelist Matthew (09.21). Initial O enclosing head of man at beginning of Collect, "Omnipotens sempitern deus qui infirma mundi eligis ..." Margins decorated on three sides with scrolling floreate and foliate decoration, including strawberry, inhabited by pairs of busts of men, three wearing hats, all emerging from clouds (upper and lower); and half figures of two angels, one holding blank scroll and one gesturing, emerging from clouds (right).
