Scene, Historical: Rome mediating with Tongres -- Among group of approximately 13 men, possibly Gauls, possibly ten hold lances, one holds bannered lance with pseudo-inscriptions, all cross bridge over moat departing crenellated city gate of Tongres, the foremost two (?) trample figure, bleeding from head, one raises sword, one aims lance at group of six (?) men, possibly Romans, two hold swords, at least three hold lances and two hold decorated bannered lances; all wear brimmed hats, helmets or hoods. Scene in hilly landscape with trees. Figures and some architectural detail painted in grisaille. Margins decorated with floreate and foliate border above and below left column, miniature within gold frame. Illustration of Book 10, History of Rome II (Rome and Tongres).
