Flanked by pieces of broken wheel on ground, Catherine of Alexandria, nimbed and crowned, holding sword with right hand and open book in left hand, stands in landscape with bushes, river and city on hill in background.
Miniature within trilobe arched frame supported by columns and architectural elements.
Margins decorated with floreate and foliate ornament, including large branches, thistle, dianthus, rose, and strawberry, and inhabited by monkey raising stick in left paw, and holding reins in right, astride hybrid animal with face on abdomen, snail and monkey, possibly wearing collar, doing handstand.
